Description:
We are recruiting on behalf of Nordex and Acciona Windpower (AW) for their new Concrete Wind Tower Manufacturing plant near Somerset East, Eastern Cape. We are putting together a team that will undertake the site supervision of the contractor who will be manufacturing the concrete towers for Nxuba wind farm, near Somerset East. The concrete tower factory where the team will be based will be located just outside of Somerset East. The positions are contract positions for the duration of the project.
This position is full time on site in Somerset East. Travel to the wind farm 30km away will be necessary from time to time.
Starting Date: By 1st September.
Minimum Education: 4 yr BTech degree or 4yr diploma.
Duration/Type of contract: Up to 12 months contract position
Immediate Superior: Acciona Wind Concrete Tower Factory Site Manager (based in Somerset East) and AW Factories Management Manager (based in Spain)
As the Production, H&S Engr for the first couple of months you will overseeing the construction of the precast factory for the wind turbine towers, thereafter you will be overseeing the production of the precast segments from the facility.
Nxuba Wind Project Partners Include:
African Clean Energy Developments (ACED – project developer), Enel Green Power, Pele Green Energy, Request Renewables and the Nxuba Wind Farm Community Trust (project sponsors).
Key Contracts and Suppliers:
Acciona Windpower South Africa (wind turbines, operation and maintenance); Power Construction (civil balance of plant contractor); and Consolidated Power Projects (electrical balance of plant contractor).
Professional level and group: Engineer (level 5)
Mission:
To support the AW Concrete Tower Factory Site Manager in assuring all aspects of production processes and equipment of the concrete tower supplier’s work of producing structural precast concrete tower segments for the Nxuba wind farm.
Functions:
• Monitor, audit and review the supplier’s and AW’s equipment and factory environment for safe and optimal handling of moulds, lids, reinforcement cages and concrete tower segments
– Gantry cranes and mobile cranes
– Mould pits
– Moulds
– Batch plants and storage areas
– Accelerated curing systems
– Storage supports
– Lifting equipment
• Monitor, audit and support the supplier in safe and correct and optimal execution of the production processes with the supplier’s and AW’s equipment during manufacture and manoeuvring of the concrete tower segments:
– Use of reinforcement jigs
– Lifting and moving of reinforcement cages from jigs to moulds
– Closing and opening of moulds
– Stacking of lids
– Cleaning of moulds and lids
– Operation of concrete plants and concrete placing equipment/trucks
– Lifting and manoeuvring of concrete tower segments from moulds to temporary supports
– Stacking of concrete tower segments on temporary supports
– Operation of accelerated curing systems
– Lifting and manoeuvring of concrete tower segments from temporary supports to trucks
• Monitor, audit and support the supplier’s teams in safe and optimal execution of the production processes
– Daily hourly production schedule
– Flow of materials and people and segments/equipment throughout the factory
• Report deviations and non-conformances to the AW Concrete Tower Site Manager and decide on corrective action in consultation with the AW Concrete Tower Site Manager and AW Factory Management Manager in Spain
• Support the supplier in timeous resolving of deviations and non-conformances to continue safely meet the production schedule
• Daily and weekly and reporting, verbal and written
• Coordinate with rest of AW team on site including AW Quality, AW Transport and Supplier’s Production team for timeous delivery of segments onto trucks ready to be transported
• Attend and keep minutes of weekly production and quality and transport coordination meetings
Required Profile:
Qualification/Training:
B.Tech/NDipl in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or Industrial Engineering from ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) Accredited tertiary institution
Diploma or certificate in ISO Health, Safety and Environment
Languages/Level:
Fluent in English – written and oral
Experience:
3 to 5 years experience in an industrial manufacturing environment responsible for processes and equipment. Previous work experience in a large-scale industrial precast concrete manufacturing or structural concrete construction environment will be an advantage.
