Nigeria set to construct 30MW solar power plant

Nigeria is set to construct 30MW solar power plant in Kaduna State, following a signed agreement between DLO Energy Resources Group, a South African company wholly owned by black women and Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai for the project.

“We are very happy to work on this project with our partners and the Kaduna State Government. This is an exceptional opportunity to provide electricity to Kaduna,” said Linda Mabhena-Olagunju founder of DLO Energy.

The development of the 30MW solar photovoltaic plant is expected to commence next year and will generate enough electricity to supply homes, including customers of major local utility providers.

The energy that will be produced is expected to be sold to Kaduna Power Supply Company, the local company responsible for electricity distribution. This new contract is in addition to the South African company’s portfolio, which invests heavily in the African continent. In Nigeria, it is preparing to supply a total of 300 MW in several states.

“This transaction is an example of an African solution to African problems and, more importantly, it offers a real opportunity for collaboration between South Africa and Nigeria,” Linda Mabhena-Olagunju, added.

Being part of the part of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer (REIPP) programme in South Africa, DLO energy also have three solar projects with a total capacity of 249 MW.
