Savannah Cement to partner with experts to meet market needs
Kenya Savannah Cement plans to partner with local construction industry experts to provide construction industry solutions. The firm’s MD, Ronald Ndegwa, says the company will involve local building and construction professionals in product development to ensure it delivers market-driven products.
Ndegwa said the commitment, which is in line with global trends, could soon see the firm producing specialist cement products to meet the demands of building and construction engineers, architects and quantity surveyors undertaking specific projects.
“The firm has the necessary capacity to engage in practical research and development (R&D) initiatives and that such specialist products may include road paving, decorative, waterproofing and adhesive type of cements among others. The commitment to partner with professional groups is part of Savannah Cement’s market development strategy as it seeks to grow its local and regional market share,” he said.
As part of the strategy, Savannah Cement has already lined up development projects valued at over US$300m including an investment plan to establish a clinker manufacturing facility and commission the second grinding plant near Kitengela Township, Kajiado County.
Already, Savannah Cement has invested more than US$100m to develop one of the most advanced and eco-friendly cement manufacturing plants in sub-Saharan Africa , located in Athi-River, 30 km from Nairobi City in Kenya, with a 1.5-million-ton annual production capacity.
