Namibia: Ohorongo Cement reaches safety milestone

Ohorongo Cement has achieved 365 days lost-day injury (LDI) free, the company said in a recent press release. The Namibian cement company reached the milestone was reached on 4 March.

“The milestone achieved certainly sets the benchmark for future records,” said Hans-Wilhelm Schütte, Ohorongo’s Managing Director, who encouraged the company’s workforce to “keep on reporting the hazardous situations and near misses, to ensure continuous improvement in safety behaviour.”

Ohorongo Cement complies with the SA8000 standard, which is based on international human rights norms and national labour laws to protect and empower all personnel at the company.

Schütte also called on all Namibians to strive for zero incidents, particularly on the roads during upcoming public holidays.

“We should not just practice safety at our work place by extend these good behaviours to our communities by applying the same vigilance with special focus on road safety,” Schütte concluded.
