It was with great sorrow that we at Concrete Trends and African Construction Expo / Totally Concrete learned of the passing of Mr Joe Otieno Odhiambo on 15 July 2021.
We extend our condolences to his family, his colleagues at Agrèment South Africa and the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.
Joe’s great contribution to the construction industry, particularly in enabling the safe passage of innovations and technology development, is a lasting legacy that will continue to benefit national development for years to come.
Over the past 10 years Joe has been a great friend to Concrete Trends and African Construction Expo, and a loyal, stalwart principal to the built environment / infrastructure sector in South Africa. His contribution to the success of Concrete Trends and Construction and Concrete expos will always be cherished, and his generous gift of time, expertise and experience remains part of their ongoing success. We know from our experience that his loss leaves behind a legacy of professionalism for our industry.
Agrèment South Africa’s tribute to Joe observes that he “… acquired vast experience in the field of innovative, non-standardised construction products, systems, materials, components and processes which are not covered by a national standard or code of practice, and has overseen the certification of several building and construction products. His expertise supported the construction industry by facilitating the safe introduction, application and utilisation of satisfactory innovation and technology development by providing assurance of fitness for purpose of such technologies. Joe was an active member of the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP), a teacher and a generous advisor of the construction industry.”
We will cherish the times we were fortunate to enjoy with Joe at many events, interviews and advisory board meetings over the years, offer our sincere condolences to his family and the entire ASA team during this time and join you in honouring his memory.
