Dangote Cement Plc says it has begun the training of its newly engaged managers while raising its capacity.
The new managers, who were inaugurated at the weekend at the Dangote Academy Ikeja, Lagos, are being trained under a new scheme, Management Trainees Programme (MTP).
The Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement Plc, Joseph Makoju, said the management scheme was “to sustain our exponential growth, competitiveness and market leadership.”
“We are committed to attract top talents into our business for our current and future business needs,” he added.
Addressing the trainee managers, Makoju said: “The fact that you are sitting here today among the top 20 candidates selected for the pilot scheme out of over 16,000 interested applicants, speaks volumes of your quality and expected potential as future business leaders.”
He told the management trainees that the management of Dangote Cement has high expectations of them in many areas.
The Academy runs Graduate Engineer Trainees Scheme (GET), Junior Technicians Scheme (JTS), Management Skills and Leadership training scheme, and it recently inaugurated 100 new students under the JTS.
The academy has trained and employed over 700 engineers and technicians between 2011 and 2018.
Dangote Cement has about 46Mta capacity across Africa of which 29.25Mta is for the Nigerian market. It operates in nine other countries – Cameroon, Congo, Ghana, Ethiopia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.
