BUA Group planning new plant in Ebonyi state

11 September 2018

BUA Group is to build a cement plant in Ebonyi, Nigeria, local news outlets have reported. The state currently has no operational cement plant, despite large limestone deposits, as well as reserves of coal that could be used to power the plant.

“We are planning to set up a cement plant in Ebonyi state,” said Kabiru Rabiu, Group Executive Director of BUA Group. “We are here because the state has a huge deposit of limestone, which is very high in quality. The state also has coal, which is a necessary energy needed for cement production.”

According to Rabiu, Ebonyi was the location of the first cement plant in Nigeria but now entire eastern part of Nigeria – of which Ebonyi is a part – lacks any operational facilities. BUA Cement recently commissioned a new production plant in the state of Sokoto with an installed capacity of 1.5 million tpy. The company also owns plants in Edo state, as well as owning stakes in Damnaz Cement Co., a majority shareholder in Cement Co. of Northern Nigeria.
