The World Cement Association (WCA) announced today that Maweni Limestone, subsidiary of Huaxin Cement Group, has joined the international network as a Corporate Member.
“We are delighted to welcome Maweni Limestone among our membership, as one of WCA’s key ambitions is to more effectively engage emerging-market players across the global cement ecosystem” explains Ian Riley, CEO at WCA. “We look forward to the contribution they will make to our efforts to share and improve best practice amongst members.”
Maweni Limestone is one of East Africa’s leading manufacturers of cement operating in Tanzania. In 2020, it was acquired and reconstructed by China Huaxin Cement, becoming one of the largest cement manufacturer in the region, with an annual output of 1.5 million tpa cement, which provided important support for the industrialisation of Tanzania.
“We are very proud that we have not only managed to develop a strong market position in Tanzania, but also maintain high standards for our business,” said Changxi Jing, Country Manager of Maweni Limestone Ltd. “We’ve admired the work already done by the WCA to raise awareness of pressing issues and opportunities faced by our industry today, and we look forward to contributing to this global discussion as Corporate Members going forward.”
